When no one capsized

June 2 is the Festa della Republica, celebrating the day that Italy became a republic in 1946. The university was closed in recognition of the national holiday, so Annalisa organized sailing lessons for all of us. The morning started with a quick lesson about sailing, as many of us had never stepped foot on a sailboat before. We were then broken up into three groups and went to the marina to set up the boats. I didn't have a waterproof camera, but Hammed Oseni was kind enough to let me take use some of his GoPro photos for this post.

We set sail from the marina at Poetto, the beach closest to Cagliari. The beach is in a bay, which means calm water and light wind, perfect for novice sailors like us.

We sailed to a little cove and beach that can only be reached by boat and stopped for a dip in the water. It was much colder than expected, but was nice after sitting in the sun for so long.

After swimming, we headed back to shore for a simple lunch and an afternoon napping on the beach.
